In accordance with a definition widely recognised within the international legal and academic communities, artificial intelligence is to be understood as a specialised domain of computer science, devoted to the examination of the theoretical foundations, algorithmic methodologies, and engineering techniques underpinning the design of hardware and software systems capable of performing tasks which, on their face, would appear to fall within the exclusive province of human cognitive faculties.
